Type Approval Steps

Step 1: Problem & Solution Definition
Participants: ITOM & Customer

We begin by understanding the customers’ requirements and regulatory needs.
• Define the project scope (New product, product update, or document revision)
• Identify the vehicle/component details: (Type, variant, version, and number of versions)
• Determine applicable standards based on market and regulatory requirements
• Specify the approval pathway (New Type Approval, Extension, or Modification)
• Outline required tests and simulations (Type and number of physical or virtual tests and worse case variants)

Step 2: Proposal & Customer Acceptance
Participants: ITOM & Customer

We provide a clear and tailored proposal to move forward.
• Submit a detailed project proposal
• Specify the test centers to be used
• Await customer confirmation to proceed

Step 3: Document & Sample Preparation
Participants: ITOM & Customer

Preparing all necessary documentation and test samples.
• Documentation Preparation:
  – Information Document (Annex)
  – COP (Conformity of Production) Plan
  – Initial company assessment
  – ISO 9001 certificate of the production facility
• Sample Preparation:
  – Prepare test samples (vehicle, system, or component)
  – Ensure full compliance with the information document
• Pre-assessment:
  – Review and finalize documents
  – Validate and complete test samples

Step 4: Test Execution
Participants: ITOM, OPTIVAL & Test Center

We coordinate and supervise the testing process.
• Pre-Test Activities:
 – Evaluate and book the test center
 – Ship samples to the facility
 – Review test procedures and protocols
• Test Execution:
 – Sign off on test protocols
 – Supervise and witness the tests
 – Conduct tests or retests as needed
 – Prepare the Technical Report

Step 5: Type Approval Application
Participant: OPTIVAL

We finalize and submit all documents to the approval authority.
• Finalize the Information Document and Technical Report
• Submit the application to the Type Approval Authority
• Await issuance of the Type Approval Certificate (E-Mark)
